Audi Q7 Review

German automobile manufacturer, Audi unveiled its luxury Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) "Q7" in India in 2006. Equipped with arresting looks, Q7 flaunts comfortable and capacious interiors, with almost all the luxury features that are found in other vehicles in the product line of Audi. Along with off-road tracks, it delivers superior performance on city roads as well, thus satisfying the needs of the super-rich Indian consumers, who look for a car well suited for everyday use. Exterior

The exteriors of Audi Q7 are imposing, with a single-framed large radiator grille being the dominant feature of the frontage. The curved headlamps holding xenon lights add to the dynamic appeal of the SUV. In the rear end, the car gets a distinctly designed tail lights cluster. Sunroof is available as an optional feature. Engine

Audi Q7 offers three engine options - one diesel and two gasoline - for the Indian consumers. Under the hood of Audi Q7 3.0 TDI lies a powerful turbocharger, CRDI diesel engine, which generates a power of 233 PS @ 4000 rpm and a torque of 500 Nm @ 1750 rpm. The car, equipped with such an engine, promises to deliver a top speed of 210 km/h. The petrol variant - 3.6 FSI - of Audi Q7 is powered by a Quattro engine, which generates a maximum output of 280 PS @ 6200 rpm and a torque of 360 Nm @ 2500 rpm. The model reaches a top speed of 225 km/h. The Q7 4.2 FSI model is also powered by a gasoline engine, which pumps out a power of 350 PS @ 6800 rpm and a torque of 440 Nm @ 3500 rpm.

Interiors

The interiors of Audi Q7 are designed keeping in mind the driver's perspective. The cabin gets aluminum and wooden trims. The stylish seats are upholstered in finest leather. The seats can be adjusted in a number of ways, according to the comfort level of the passenger. The Multi-Media Interface (MMI), a special feature found in Audi cars, is also found in this SUV. It displays climate control, audio information and other functions of the vehicle. With ample leg, head and shoulder room, riding in the SUV is pleasurable on long journeys as well.

Ride and Handling

A comfortable ride is ensured by Audi Q7, both on and off the road. The SUV features permanent all-wheel-drive system, which distributes power asymmetrically, suitable for all driving conditions. This makes driving a pleasurable experience. Apart from the finely tuned standard suspension systems, the SUV comes with an optional air suspension, which makes handling all the more better.

Safety

Antilock Braking System (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) are among the standard safety features found in all the three models of Audi Q7 SUV. Apart from these, the car also includes 'Servotronic' speed-sensitive steering, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) - with traction control and tyre pressure monitor. Rear-seat side torso air bags are available as an optional feature. The front seat belts have been equipped with pre-tensioners and load-limiters. All the three rows of seats get front side seat-mounted torso air bags and side curtain air bags.

Variants, Price and Color

There are three variants of Audi Q7 SUV. These include 3.0 TDI (diesel), 3.6 FSI (petrol) and 4.2 FSI (petrol). The diesel variant is priced at Rs 52 lakh (approx), whereas the petrol models - 3.6 FSI and 4.2 FSI come with a price tag of Rs 55 lakh (approx) and Rs 66 lakh (approx), respectively. Q7 is available in dazzling colors, including Cobalt Blue Metallic, Deep Black, Lava Grey, Phantom black, Condor Grey Metallic, Sycamore Green, Garnet Red, Quartz Black, Bania Beige Metallic, Ice Silver and Calla White.

Verdict

Audi Q7, the performance SUV has achieved a sort of cult position among the other SUVs on account of its ability to be a sporty, high-performance, recreational as well as business-like vehicle…all qualities that lend an air of grandiose-ness to it.
